Social Media Fact Sheet 2014

Social Media is changing faster than ever. Here are some interesting Social Media Statistics. Some 73% of online adults now use a social networking site of some kind.

Facebook : 
1. 71% of online adults now use Facebook, and usage among seniors has increased significantly in the last year.
2. Facebook is the dominant social networking platform in the number of users, but a striking number of users are now diversifying onto other platforms. 
3. Women are also particularly likely to use Facebook compared with men.
4. Half of internet users who do not use Facebook themselves live with someone who does.
5. 189 million of Facebook’s users are ‘mobile only’

Twitter :
1. There are about 974 million existing Twitter account. 
2. As of January 2014, 19% of online adults use Twitter.
3. 44% of the 974 million existing Twitter accounts have never sent a tweet.
4. 30% of existing Twitter accounts have sent 1-10 tweets. Only 13% of the accounts have written at least 100 tweets.

LinkedIn:
1. Every second 2 new members join LinkedIn
2. LinkedIn sends nearly four times more people to your homepage than Twitter and Facebook
3. 54% of Millennials use LinkedIn to read industry news and seek professional advice
4. 6 out of every 10 LinkedIn users are interested in industry insights—the most-demanded type of content among LinkedIn members.
5. 44,000 is the average number of daily LinkedIn mobile Job applications
6. 40% of users that Check LinkedIn daily

Frequency of social media usage : 
1. Fully 63% of Facebook users report going on the site at least daily (with 40% logging on multiple times per day), 
2. Just 14% of Facebook users say that they visit the site less than once a week.
3. Instagram users visit the site nearly as frequently as Facebook users. 
4. More than half of Instagram users (57%) use the app on a daily basis, with 35% doing so several times per day. 
5. Twitter users are also frequent visitors to the site. Some 46% use Twitter daily, with 29% checking in several times per day. However, 32% of Twitter users say that they check in less than once per week.
6. Pinterest and LinkedIn users tend to have more intermittent patterns of usage. Just 23% of Pinterest users and 13% of LinkedIn users visit the sites daily, and around half say they use the sites less than once per week.
Social Media sites Use 
Some 36% of internet users say that they use just one of the five social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn), while 42% use two or more of these sites. The remaining 22% of internet users have not adopted any of the five major platforms. Among the internet uses who use five major social networking platforms, 8% use LinkedIn, 4% use Pinterest, and 2% each say that Instagram or Twitter is their sole social networking site. The remaining 84% say that Facebook is the one social networking site they use.
