The New LinkedIn Features You Have Missed in 2020 - Quick Recap

In my earlier blog, I have covered about the new features that Twitter added in the year 2020.

Today, LinkedIn caters to the professional and business needs of its 690 million members. This year, LinkedIn released a ton of new features that are perfect for brands and professionals looking to grow.

They’re all readily available to any LinkedIn user. But not every LinkedIn user knows about or uses them. In this blog post, sharing the new LinkedIn features that you might have missed:

Name Pronunciation:

LinkedIn’s name pronunciation feature is a simple but effective addition to the platform, and it’s great for promoting inclusion in the workplace.

Thanks to this new feature, users can now record a 10-second audio clip and add it to their profile, so other users can listen to the recording to learn how to correctly pronounce their name.

As a spokesperson from LinkedIn explains, “Correct pronunciation is not just common courtesy — it’s an important part of making a good first impression and creating an inclusive workplace".

You currently can’t record or edit your name pronunciation on the LinkedIn desktop site. It can only be done on LinkedIn iOS and Android mobile apps.

LinkedIn Polls:

Your professional network can be a great asset when it comes to gleaning insights or getting a second opinion. Released earlier this year, LinkedIn Polls is a great new feature for driving quick engagements on the platform.

As a poll creator, you can keep an eye on the activity in real-time, such as how many votes have been cast, the results so far, and how much time is left for voting. Only you can also see who has voted and what they voted for.

Quick Composer Messenger :

Over the past few months, you may have noticed LinkedIn’s post composer quick links growing, with more options to help guide what you post about on the platform (and make it easier for you to post).

LinkedIn users will see five different custom post creation options at the bottom of your LinkedIn post composer (in your main news feed) – they are:

  • Celebrate an occasion
  • Find an expert
  • Create a poll
  • Add a profile
  • Offer help

In particular: "Offer help" and "Share a profile" option which was added last month, which enables you to showcase one of your connections via a post – a very useful tool to build relationships with others in your network.

LinkedIn's Open To Work feature:

LinkedIn has released an “Open to Work” feature to help you let employers, recruiters and your network know you're looking for a job.

You can share your open-to-work status by checking either "share with recruiters only" or "share with all LinkedIn members."

To access, click the “Add New Profile Section” button to the right of your profile picture and then click “Looking for a new job” in the Intro section at the top.

Once enabled, an Open To Work photo frame will be added to your profile picture so anyone who sees your profile will know you are open to new opportunities and may help you connect with recruiters. Check this here for more details

LinkedIn Stories:

LinkedIn is following the footsteps of Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook by bringing a professional twist to the 24-hour stories format we all know. They are giving professionals the opportunity to share those more on-the-fly moments. Click here to know how Recruiters / Employer Branding professionals can leverage LinkedIn Stories:

LinkedIn Events:

This feature allows you to create an event on LinkedIn to share with your network and wider audience. You can use LinkedIn Events for both in-person and online events. LinkedIn suggests you build your network by hosting or attending LinkedIn events and meeting your connections face to face.

If you’re already hosting professional events, you should try this feature out.

Head over to LinkedIn and look at the left-hand column between “Groups” and “Followed Hashtags.” That’s the place you’ll find the feature.

Once you’ve created an Event, you can manage the details at any time, and your attendees will be notified about the changes. Both organizers and attendees can invite connections to attend an Event. Check this link for more

LinkedIn Live:

Featured Media:

Previously known as the Summary Media Section by most, LinkedIn has now transformed this into the Featured section where you can showcase the pieces you’re most proud of. This section is located right underneath your summary, it catches the attention of whoever may be viewing your profile. The perfect opportunity to make a good lasting impression. For example, this could include client testimonials, articles you’ve written, speaking engagements, special projects, awards.

Upcoming Feature:

Hashtag Presentation mode :

The ‘Hashtag Presentation’ mode is being tested for Desktop. When a user would click on the three horizontal dots, they would see an option to ‘Enter fullscreen presentation mode’, when clicked on it, the user would be directed a board of posts that are linked together with the hashtag.
